Business Continuity Awareness week 2017

BCAW

15 May to 19 May (inclusive) is Business Continuity Awareness Week (BCAW), during which specialists from the profession aim to raise awareness about the importance of business continuity. This time the theme is cyber resilience, which is not so strange when you consider that interviewees in various studies report that cyber attacks and data leaks form the greatest risks for business continuity, not just in the Netherlands but worldwide.

Cyber Resilience Report

The Cyber Resilience Report published by the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) is an analysis of cyber security incidents experienced by organisations across the world and how they respond to them.

The report lists the following as the Top 5 causes of cyber disruption:

    1. Phishing & Social Engineering (61%)
    2. Malware (45%)
    3. Spear phising attacks (37%)
    4. Denial of Service (24%)
    5. Outdated software (21%)

In addition, the report revealed that of the companies interviewed two-thirds had experienced at least one cyber security incident during the previous year and that 15% of the interviewees reported they had experienced at least 10 incidents.

Reason enough for organisations to place cyber security and cyber resilience high on the agenda.

Please visit the BCI website if you would like to know more about the report or other publications about cyber security or business continuity.
